Been Watching: Always My Santa

Being born on 24 December is not as much fun as you'd expect. Especially when your parents decide to christen you "Santa". Then disappear off round the world  and utterly fail to turn up to any of your birthdays. Ever.
So young Santa does not enjoy Christmas very much. Then one day a slightly unhinged girl named Mai latches onto him, loudly declares that she is, in fact, Santa Claus and it is her mission to make him happy.
Ever since I read the synopis I'd been wanting to see this one, mainly out of curiosity.
I really wish I hadn't bothered.
Always My Santa can't quite work out whether it wants to be Ah! My Goddess or Excel Saga, has a go at being both and fails utterly. The male lead is a colourless cutout and Mai grates like you would not believe. There is a story: some bollocks about believing in Santa and the hero discovering that people do actually love him. There's also a running gag about Mai summoning up random objects but only if they start with an "S" Oh how my sides ached.
The second OVA is actually worse. A new character is parachuted in to provide tension and an excuse for some sort of magical battle then abruptly spends the next 15 minutes or so being fundamentally useless. Then Mai is summoned back to Santa school in a scene that blatantly rips off  the ending of the first Ah My Goddess OAV series but in such a hamfisted fashion that I just wanted her to sod off and have done with it.
Not the worst anime I've ever seen but the worst I've seen lately.
If you want Magical Girlfriend anime, go watch Ah My Goddess. Go watch Video Girl Ai. Screw it, go watch Girl From Phantasia, even. Just don't bother watching this.
