Comic: Amazon Gazonga (1995)

Well, just look at the cover.

   Amazon Gazonga (One-Shot 1995)

 I would write a quick precis but the creator has already put one on the inside cover.

  As you can tell, the art style is quite noticeably anime-influenced.(The heroine bears more than a passing resemblance to Project A-Ko's redhaired heroine) Also proudly upholding the fantasy tradition of female underwear being made of brass. 
 Before we get any further, take a moment to get all the boob gags out of your system. You know you want to.
   I'm fairly certain that our stacked heroine made her debut in an Eternity Comics showcase series a wee bit earlier than 1995. I'm also fairly certain that I own said comics but since I'm buggered if I'm going to go digging about in my back-issue boxes, this will have to do.
 Of the two tales on display here, the first is a reprint of that origin story.

It starts with young tribesman Andu scoffing at a myth.

 Andu is a prat. Guess who pop up moments later.

 And Andu quickly finds himself flat on his back with an Amazon sitting on top of him.

(In case you're wondering, Gazonga thinks Men are a separate species. I am so not touching that one.)

Boy meets girl. Still more sophisticated then Geordie Shore. 

So Andu and his mates are carted off to the Amazon city where Gazonga and archenemy Devia prepare for stage 2 of their initiation rites. A race through the nastiest bit of the jungle the Amazons could find, proving that regardless of gender or cultural background, PE teachers are always utter bastards.

Yes, baddie Devia is the one with the flowing raven hair and bra made of claws. How did you guess?

Gazonga has the bright idea of avoiding the jungle perils by going airborne.It mostly works. 

Having survived the experience, the young Amazons must now face the dreaded Trial Of the Beast.

Of course the beast isn't what Gazonga is expecting at all.

 Hands up anybody who didn't see that coming?

So once Andu and Gazonga have cleared up a few misunderstandings they get to chatting and things are going nicely when Devia pops in.

A keen follower of Valerie Solanas, obviously.

 The resulting fracas leads to Andu and Gazonga having to exit Amazon City in a bit of a hurry and with nothing better to do, Gazonga agrees to help her new friend find what's left of his tribe.

 The second story is a short piece, done a wee bit later and after an artistic style-tweak. Our heroes get caught in a flash-flood which gives Gazonga a chance to showcase her impressive jumping and log-surfing skills. 

  And as far as I know that's it.  This one issue came and went and Artist/Writer Jason Waltripp moved on to other things. According to Wikipedia he can now be found doing the successful webcomic "Penny and Aggie" 

I suspect if I asked him if  he's ever going to do any more "Amazon Gazonga" he'd smack me one. 

Ah well.
  This has likeable characters, is frenetic, endearingly daft, rather fun and putting a redhead in a metal bikini is always going to get my attention.  Speaking of Metal Bikinis, one of Waltripps other comics has a heroine who looks a little familiar....
