Womens Wrestling Comics - Grappling Gertie

Since posts about wrestling are consistently my most popular, I think it's time I did another one.
So this is the first of three posts where  I shall  introduce you to three different comics about lady wrestlers, each with a different art style and tone. I will also post a few sample pics from each.
(I was originally going to do all three in one post but for the sake of bandwidth and sanity, I split it up.)

Grappling Gertie - UK - 1989

More pics and info after the break

This is that rarest of things, a British comic about womens' wrestling. So far as I know, there have been precisely two published. This, in 1989, and the belated prequel "Grappling Gertie's Schooldays" four or five years later.
The story is uniquely British. Two pupils at an exclusive girls boarding school accidentally discover that their teacher is moonlighting as a wrestler.  And blackmail her.
In return for keeping quiet about Gertrude Williams' alter ego "Leopard Lily" they get an easy ride through school, excused Games and some lessons in grappling to help deal with the school bully.
But when it looks like Gerties secret might come to light, our heroines have to come up with a cunning plan to save her bacon.

Note that the tone is light-hearted, with a definite touch of seaside postcard.

Leopard Lily gets chinned by a rampaging stereotype.
And slung out of the ring then blinded by a flash going off in her face.

Part of the cunning plan involves one of the girls standing in for Gertie.
You can tell that she's wondering if that was such a brilliant idea.
Take a guess as to what country her opponent is supposed to be from.

Yep. Definitely a dumb idea.

How easy is this to get hold of? I found this on Ebay a month or so back so you might get lucky.

Update: I've now posted some scans from Grappling Gertie's Schooldays HERE
