Misty Blue Simmes

Last year I put up some pics of Misty Blue Simmes in action and one of my readers asked if I had any more.  I said "I'll have a look..." and promptly got distractd by a bunch of other stuff. For 6 months.

Oops.

So to make up for it, I had a dig through some old scrapbooks and managed to dig out more shots of the woman who was, at one point, being hailed as "The saviour of women's wrestling"

I miss the old wrestling outfits. Just saying.

One of the reasons Misty didn't manage to stop the gradual decline in women's wrestling was that by the
time she came on the scene she only had a limited pool to work from. A lot of big stars were tied up with the WWF or the AWA which meant that Misty ended up defending her US title against Linda Dallas, Linda Dallas and ...um...Linda Dallas.

Later on the creation of the LPWA made things a wee bit easier so Misty only ended up wrestling Linda or Kat Leroux every other match.  It's a bit of shame that to my knowledge Misty never got to wrestle any other the big women's names of the 80s - Sherri Martel for instance. Wouldn't that have been great?

Sorry about the quality. The original picture was tiny and my scanner is cheap.

Misty throws Kat Leroux across the ring.
Miss Leroux doing a particularly good "Oh shit!" face here.

Yet another match against Kat Leroux.  Seriously, did these two come as a package deal or something?
Now it's Kat's turn to have a sore throat.

The next three are all against somebody Misty Blue would have a longrunning feud with in the NWA, Indies and LPWA.
Pocket sized psycho Linda Dallas.
does anybody even read these?
I'm not entirely sure what Linda is trying to do here. Slap on a Chinese burn maybe?
Note also that Misty has made her trademark "Red, White & Blue" suit even more patriotic with a selection of bandannas.
These days that would make her an instant heel. How times change.

Linda slaps on her favourite submission holds - the Octopus.  This move looks like it legitimately hurts.

Misty does a bit of stretching herself.
I never did find out why Linda always wore that one opera glove.

A rare action shot that isn't against Kat or Linda.
That's "Mad Dog" Debbie Irons selling an armbar while simultaneously demonstrating why a Rambo outfit is not good wrestling gear if you have floppy bits attached to your chest.

I know... that sentence even made me wince. Sorry.

If I find any more pics i'll put tehm up but in the meantime...

That's All Folks.

  1. Amazing! And good take on Mistys career. The pool of contenders wasn't too deep in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Misty tried to challenge Madusa at one point but the match never happened. LPWA misused her badly in my view. She should have been the singles title holder, not Australian Susan Sexton. Misty as champ with Sexton doing a good heel job would have been perfect, a feud between the two even. Also Madusa did singles stuff in LPWA , there is a marquee matchup right there! The two sexiest wrestlers of that era going at it. Instead , LPWA had Misty and Heidi Lee as Team America , tag champs. Misty wrestled single only occasionally.

If you look at the early LPWA stuff, and compare it to the later LPWA stuff, Misty also puts on about 20 pounds between 1989 and 1992 when she turns 30. I was a huge fan but even I could see the writing on the wall by 1992: she had missed her window. Her matches looked sluggish in 1991 and 1992 compared to her heyday.

She's my all time favorite. The best, that never was crowned the way she should have been. Another theory I have is her mic skills were not the best. Heidi had decent mic skills but Misty seemed to struggle in that area. She could have gotten over with the fans with just her in ring performance, USA themed attire and cheeky attitude. Too bad LPWA squandered her, and then the Las Vagas area living , partying and sunning herself obviously contributed to a lack of conditioning that hurt her.

  2. Again! Great job. Hope you dig up some more! I had a ton of Misty stuff when I was in my teens, I snapped up every magazine with a mention of her . I don't know what happened to all this things! I moved around a lot and probably purged the wrong box at some point.

Hey ever come across Canadian Metal Queen Lee Aaron? She was a total fox back in the day. You'd love her!

    1. Lee Aaron may have been one of the most beautiful women in Heavy Metal history. And unlike certain of her contemporaries, she could actually sing.
