Now I've just had a look on Metal Archives and made the rather alarming discovery that there's 6661 results.
This could take a while.
In the meantime, here's a small sampling of the sort of thing I'm on about:

Anthrax - Metal Thrashing Mad
Grave Digger - Heavy Metal Breakdown
Kick Axe - Heavy Metal Shuffle
And for a bit of variety: Van Canto proving that you can be Very Metal without actually owning guitars. Worth hearing just for the solo.
If anybody out there has any suggestions for more songs for this playlist, I'd love to hear it.
Yes, I already know that Lady Gaga has a song called Heavy Metal Lover.
