This is Catherine Kieu-Becker
When her husband told her that he wanted a divorce she did not react well.
On July 11 2011, Catherine drugged him then hacked off his dick with a kitchen
knife and stuffed it down the garbage disposal.
knife and stuffed it down the garbage disposal.
This is the cast of US Talkshow "The Talk" offering their opinion on the incident.
Most of them find it amusing. Sharon Osbourne especially.
Now in all fairness, Sharon did offer an apology. (Ff to 1.32)
(Although for some reason I'm having a hard time believing she meant it.
Giggling will do that.)
This is US televison "personality" Wendy Williams putting her two cents in.
This is a website claiming that the plaintiff needs "Care not punishment"
There was (briefly) a Free Catherine Kieu page on Facebook which has since been pulled.
All of this leads me to one simple question:
What the fuck is wrong with you people?
I see this time after time. Male victims of female violence are blamed ("You must have done something to deserve it.") shamed ("You got beat up by a girl. What kind of a man are you?") and then mocked. (Beating up a boyfriend is fun and empowering.) So basically told "You do not matter."
There's this "You go, girl" attitude around that tells women that pretty much anything shitty a woman does to a man is not only OK but a victory for womankind. If you want an example as to where that leads, pop round to your local battered husband's shelter. Assuming you can find one.
Incidentaly, according to the defence team the victim was an abusive asshole but since that's been the go-to defence for violent women for decades, I'm not entirely convinced. By all accounts, neither was the judge.I'm also confidently expecting Jezebel to come with an emotive article explaining how the whole thing is really the fault of The Patriarchy. Tell me I'm wrong, I dare you.
So to sum up.
Catherine Kieu cut her husband's dick off and fed it to a garbage disposal.
If you think that's OK then you are a hateful moron.
YIkes, Catherine Kieu is a nutcase, and The Talk is a ridiculous show (I'd never heard of it until I read your post). It is true that society seems to take violence against women more seriously than that which is perpetrated against men, and there's really no excuse for it. There is no justification for torturing any human being, IMO. Even if she was an abused spouse, Kieu had access to hotlines and multiple forms of trauma assistance. She deserves to have the book thrown at her for what she did.
ReplyDeleteWhat?!! What? That's just.....I can't,....No, speechless.
ReplyDeleteIt's another case of extreme violence that has no place in civilized society. (What the hell is it with these TV shows???)
ReplyDeleteCheers, ic
ok, I just spent a while commenting, then there was an error. UGGGHH!
ReplyDeleteso, in short - there is definitley a double standard in the media when talking about gender issues - like the women talking heads are grateful for moments where they can be sexist as their male counterparts, instead of trying to raise the level of journalism.
there are so many times where women AND men are verbaly, mentally or physically abused. there are CIVIL and SAFE ways to get out of those situations. (in the last post i gave examples of extreme conditions where a woman would really feel alone and desperate)
But, a guy wants a divorce and this is what happens to him??????? That's CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT. That's TORTURE!
I am also reminded of the Jodi Arias case that just went to the jury yesterday. In a few days a jury in Arizona will decide life or death for a woman who stabbed her ex boyfriend 29 times (once straight through the heart, slashed his throat ear to ear and deep enough where the knife reached the spine, then shot him in the head. She's claiming self defense and a cut finger. And, a total fog of the minute and a half of stabbing and then the clean up.
She faces life in prison or death. However, if just one jury member believes she was abused and it was self-defense, she could walk in a few years with 'manslaughter' or 'heat of passion' death.
If this was a guy, this case would not have taken 5 MONTHS to finally go to jury.
If Catherine's husband cut anything off her, especially a 'private part,' would he have a life ahead of him????? He'd be fried. And, can you imagine guys on a sports talk show high-fiving each other because some man maimed his wife?????
Sheesh.
I am currently working on a story to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the emasculation of John Wayne Bobbit. Considering that he was the first high profile case of this kind and he was able to save the severed part and have it reattached, he did quite well for himself in the brief aftermath. I doubt very much that Kieu's husband will fare that well. I hope justice is served.
ReplyDeleteI also trust that the coven that convenes around the that kitchen table on The View is taken to task also.
I agree entirely with the words of Charlene, a previous commenter. There is a definitive double standard surrounding violent crime committed on men by women.
I've seen this woman's name being branded about but had no idea who she was or what she did until I just read your post.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great shame when women behave in this manner and society doesn't take it as seriously as they would if it had been a woman who had her sexual organs violated. In fact, how many people disagree with female genital mutilation but are happy to hear this? Double flaming standard.
This woman was not defending herself against an attack, she merely didn't like what had been said to her and she knowingly set this man up and viciously attacked him. I wonder what she would do if this had happened to her own son, father or uncle.
In situations like this you need a brilliant Crown Prosecutor who can relay the true facts to any jury in a way that they can fully understand what has taken place. People ought to look at the exact facts of a case with it's evidence and nothing else.
Women should not be celebrating this in any way, shape or form. There are some extremely violent, mentally and physically abusive women out there, and I don't say this lightly.
Sorry for not taking time to look at the videos today. I'm glad I stopped by here today.
This is really disgusting. I don't know what else to say. The world is getting sicker by the day. Best to read a good book instead of watching this dribble and giving those ladies the ratings.
ReplyDeleteThe case is so disgusting. Sadly, I am not surprised at the double standard. Why anyone can laugh at this kind of violence boggles the mind.
ReplyDeleteWhy are people supporting her?
ReplyDeleteFeminism, that's why.
