Today's post is a simple idea that gives the artist a lot of room to be creative.
Mirror, Mirror on the wall. Who's the fairest scariest of them all?
Monsters Of The Ordinary - Mirror (Austria 2012)
Our first indication that this particular post is not going to be all lovestruck cuties gazing wistfully into a mirror. Some of these ladies are in need of some serious psychiatric help. And possibly an exorcist.Band site here: http://www.monstersoftheordinary.com/ - More Stoner Fuzz-rock than metal but close enough that I'm going to sneak them in anyway.
Mena Brinno - Princess Of The Night (USA 2012)
Two questions.
Correction... three.
Who's the poor sod trapped in the mirror?
What the hell is that slithering in through the door?
What is it with female metal singers and corsets anyway?
You have to wonder if there's some sort of union rule that says you can't front a Symphonic/Gothic metal band without a corset.
Wondering what she sounds like?
Wondering what she sounds like?
Not bad.
Icarus Witch - Rise (USA 2012)
Um. Ok..I got nothing.Moving swiftly along.
Dark Mirror - Visions Of Pain (USA 2007)
Another one where there's something trapped in the mirror.
He looks right pissed off about it too.
Hideweaver - Silver Bullet (Italy 2013)
A cover that raises all sorts of questions. Is she the one reflected in the mirror?
Or waiting for her next target to arrive?
I'm going to try not to think to deeply about the last three.
I plan on getting some sleep tonight after all.
Suffice it to say, how comfortable would you be about using a mirror if what was on the other side was watching you back.
And planning to take your place
Mooncry - A Mirror's Diary (Germany 2013)
Escaping...or trapped?
Secret Sphere - Portrait Of A Dying Heart (Italy 2012)
I can tell right away that this is not going to end well. When Nothing Remains - Thy Dark Serenity (Sweden 2012)
Skipping past the creepy-as-fuck-bedroom decor, here we see why breaking a mirrror sometimes leads to more than 7 years bad luck.Screw it. I'm going to go put a towel over my bathroom mirror.
Then only ever look into it when the sun is shining.
That's all folks.
serious album covers
ReplyDeletesome of the ladies are in need of serious psychiatric help? they seem beyond repair ...or do you like them that way?
It's a slightly darker selection than I normally post. Which is pretty weird considering that death, destruction and casual violence tend to feature heavily.
DeleteHow come it's more disturbing to watch somebody falling apart than blow up a city-block?
I did like the shrouded nude on the broomstick.....an interesting take on pole dancing I suppose.
ReplyDeleteCheers, ic
Now you know where Katy Perry got the idea from.
DeleteMena Brinno's actually got a nice voice. My favorite cover is Icarus Witch, with Mooncry coming in second.
ReplyDeleteShe has, hasn't she? I'd guess she's had some classical training.
DeleteInteresting that you and Ian both liked the Icarus Witch cover. I was half expecting that to be the one people sniggered at.
My favourite cover here is the Mooncry one. It's probably the most...dramatic?
It's also the one where it's most obvious that something terrible just happened. What, exactly, is open to interpretation.
