Cheapo DVD Review: 2035 Forbidden Dimensions. (2013)

1998: A company is developing some sort of electronic thingie intending to..I dunno...something about aliens and using their body parts for highly questionable medical  stuff.

2035: Civilisation has collapsed which means everybody is walking round in crusty leathers. There's mutants and piles of CRT televisions stacked up everywhere.

Hero Jack Slade keeps switching from one reality to another as he can time-travel.  How is never explained. Actually hardly anything is explained.  I don't know what the hell is going on. My head hurts.

Well this was a peculiar viewing experience.  2035 is easily the most baffling film I've seen in decades and believe me, I've seen some weird shit.

The narrative switching between two timelines is already confusing enough but 2035 is essentially a collection of random scenes taped together. I was initially confused but hoped it would make sense later on.

It didn't.

If anything, it got worse.

To add to the confusion, the director decided to throw in a couple of sequences which can best be described as "art-school project on acid."  This means that on the whole 2035 has the sort of  storyline flow I normally only see in dreams after eating spicy food.

Then there's some sequences which are gory and horrific for the sake of it.  At one point Jack is *literally* ripped to pieces with no impact on the plot. The SFX guys wanted something to do, I guess.

To sum up: 2035 comes across as an attempt to revisit the low-budget SF of the 1990s, trenchcoats, mutants and all, but tries to get clever and fails.  Not recommended unless you're a masochist.

Baked Beans On Toast.

One of my favourite things to do is browse Youtube looking for new music. If I find an interesting channel  I can end up adding twenty or thirty songs to my watch later list. Sometimes the thumbnail leads me to something worth hearing, sometimes it doesn't live up to my expectations and i move on.

And once in a while I stumble across a song that really makes an impact for all kinds of reasons.

In this case i was flicking through ANTIPODES channel, devoted to bands that seem to be unknown outside Australia and as soon as I saw this thumbnail I had to see what the hell it was all about.

Yes, yes it did.
Watch and marvel.

Mother Goose - Baked Beans (1977)

A little bit of research reveals that Mother Goose were a troupe of theatrical Kiwis who moved to
Australia and for a brief while became one of Down Under's biggest touring attractions.
The outfits certainly made them memorable. Yes, they played live like that.
Sadly they never seemed to have got any exposure outside Oz  because I'm sure
UK  audiences would have loved them, at least for a  little while.

Check out this site: https://dangerousminds.net/comments/mother_goose_baked_beans for some more info.

So after hearing this song I suddenly remembered another one that would be a perfect partner in crime.

In 1978 Britain's own Streetband  had a novelty hit with the quirky Toast.
Keen eyes will notice that the lead singer is a pre-solo Paul Young.
(PS. I actually remember seeing this lot on Top of the Pops.)

Now there'a package tour for you.

Got any food related songs that would fit on the same stage as these guys?
Please let me know.

That's all folks.
